I’m so pleased to be teaching second grade students for a sixth year at Cedar Creek. I feel incredibly privileged to come to work on this wonderful campus and perform a job that I love every day.
I'm originally from Houston, where I attended St. John's School. I enjoyed living in beautiful North Carolina for four years (Davidson College), but after I came back to Texas and married, my husband and I decided we would plant roots in Austin. That was over 25 years ago, and we can’t imagine ever leaving! Both our boys are native Austinites. I’ve been in the field of education since 2006, when I began as an assistant kindergarten teacher at a local independent school. The following year I enrolled at Texas State to obtain my masters degree in Elementary Education, which I received in 2010. In the years since, I’ve taught all elementary grade levels K-5 as either an assistant, substitute, or classroom teacher at both independent and public schools. I have certifications in ESL, Gifted/Talented, and Reading and Language Arts 4-8. When I’m not at school I may be found enjoying some of my hobbies, including travel, reading, gardening, cooking, and walking our dogs. My love of books and reading has led me to regularly support and volunteer at The Texas Book Festival each fall. It would be a hoot to see some of my students at the Children’s Tent this year! My goal this year is to create a classroom environment in which all members of our community respect and support each other as we take risks and challenge ourselves. I believe that each student contributes to our class by sharing their unique gifts every day. Here in Room 46, I’d like to think the questions we ask as learners can sometimes be more interesting than answers! |
